Dee Green
Dee was born and raised in southeast Idaho - Pocatello, Fort Hall, Blackfoot, Idaho Falls - and has lived in the area her entire life. She was riding a horse as soon as she could walk. Her first horse was an ornery little Shetland pony named Peanuts. He taught her on a daily basis that when you get knocked down (or bucked off), you must brush it off and get back in the saddle.
For her 7th birthday, her grandpa gifted her with her first big horse, and she never wanted to leave the barn. Her grandfather and dad raised quarter horses that they raced on flat track and with chariots. She was constantly at her dad’s and grandpa’s side and loved helping them with horse chores around the farm and helping on race days.
Dee graduated from Blackfoot Hight School. She worked at the Idaho National Laboratory for 30 years, starting in the cafeteria, moving to Physical Security, and retiring from Personnel Security as a security clearance specialist.
After retirement, Dee volunteered for the Idaho Falls Zoo and lead the children’s Zoomobile program. This included caring for and taking the zoo’s ambassador animals to surrounding schools, libraries, and daycares to share animal facts and teach conservation to children.
Then through the suggestion of a friend she discovered Champs Heart. She immediately knew she wanted to work with horses and special needs kids. She has been at Champs for 4 years, starting as a volunteer. She currently performs as the Program Manager for the children’s program.
When she is not overseeing the program, she is spending her time loving on her 2 miniature donkeys, Flick and Rosy.
